#2:  Will Shields

There was a big reason, literally and figuratively that the Kansas City Chiefs had dominant rushing attacks for the better part of 13 years from 1993 to 2006. That was the presence of Hall of Fame guard Will Shields. Seriously the guy was instrumental to the success of so many. A list that includes Marcus Allen, Priest Holmes, and Larry Johnson. All went to Pro Bowls thanks in large part because Shields was there to plow open lanes for them to get through.

The man was something rare. That ultra-special sort of football player who is so much better and tougher than anybody else. That’s why he didn’t miss a single game in his career and went to 12 Pro Bowls. No seriously. It’s really hard to believe Kansas City wasn’t able to win a championship considering they had arguably one of the best offensive linemen in history for over a decade. Yet that’s how the NFL can be sometimes. Greatness surrounded by not good enough.
