Pittsburgh Steelers:  Troy Polamalu

There are actually a number of possible candidates for the Steelers given their run of success over the past couple decades. Former guard Alan Faneca was a stud and nine-time Pro Bowler in the league. However, he didn’t come near the same star power and impact as Troy Polamalu did during his heyday at safety in Pittsburgh. Who can forget the incredible plays he made during the playoffs from the leaping one-handed interceptions to the perfectly-timed blitzes to get critical stops on quarterback sneaks.

He was an eight-time Pro Bowler and Defensive Player of the Year in 2010. The guy was the heart and soul of that Steelers defense through the two Super Bowl victories in 2005 and 2008. He retired with 35 interceptions, 12 sacks, 14 forced fumbles and five defensive touchdowns. A truly complete player who was arguably the best of his era. There’s just no excuse that can be made to keep him out. Every box is checked.
