Final Verdict: Josh McCown

More from NFL Mocks

After all is said and done, I think Josh McCown will ultimately win the starting position with the Jets, at least at first. There’s a decent chance Hackenberg will play at some point in the season with McCown’s history of below average production.

That said, it sounds like the coaching staff is just much more comfortable right now with McCown at the helm and that’s probably fine. They need to see what they have in some of their young skill players, and a veteran like McCown is probably more likely to get them opportunities.

This won’t be his first time playing with a young group around him, as he spent the past two seasons roughing it in Cleveland with the Browns.

Perhaps Christian Hackenberg will get his shot sooner than later, but for now, I’m predicting McCown wins the job easily.
