New York Jets quarterback battle: Josh McCown vs. Christian Hackenberg
Josh McCown
The quarterback is not solely to blame for a team’s win-loss record, but the fact that Josh McCown is 2-18 in his past 20 starts is quite staggering. I think you would be hard pressed to find a starting quarterback in the NFL today with a worse record in their past 20 games.
That said, it appears as though McCown is the leader in the clubhouse for the job. That’s probably because he’s one of very few players on the offensive side of the ball over the age of 25.
There’s something to be said for McCown’s experience in the league, even though the results haven’t been great in terms of wins and losses. He has spent the past two seasons in Cleveland but he has some familiarity with one of his new teammates in former Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte.
Whether or not Forte will stay on the roster remains up for discussion, but it’ll likely be McCown getting the first crack at first team reps come time for Jets training camp in July. He’s the elder statesman of what has been described by Jets head coach Todd Bowles as ‘kindergarten’.
Yikes.
