NFL: Biggest questions facing the AFC East squads
Buffalo Bills: Is Sean McDermott “the guy”?
It will take longer than just this offseason to answer this question, but it is a lingering one as McDermott kicks off year one in Buffalo.
The Rex Ryan era in Buffalo only lasted 31 games with Ryan getting fired late last season. The team went 15-16 during his tenure failed to play up to their talent level. In McDermott’s back pocket is an offense that was first in rushing and 10th in points per game.
There has been noted disconnection as far as whether or not QB Tyrod Taylor is a long-term option at the position but at least the ability of Taylor and RB LeSean McCoy provide the foundation for McDermott’s tenure.
McDermott has a lengthy and impressive resume. He has never been a head coach, but he has been a quality assistant as a defensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Carolina Panthers.
At 43 years of age, McDermott is considered an “infant” regarding coaching ranks but legendary former Bills players such as Thurman Thomas and Darryl Talley have compared McDermott to former Bills head coach Marv Levy.
