Dallas Cowboys – 2000

The late 1990s to the early 2000s was a rough stretch for the Dallas Cowboys as they’d lost most of the luster that had made them a dynasty. A big reason for this was poor drafting, do in large part to the exit of Jimmy Johnson from the team in 1994. Without his keen eye for talent, owner Jerry Jones had a hard time creating the same magic that made them such a powerhouse. One of his darkest points as GM came in 2000 when the team hit a low point.

It was the start of three-straight years where they’d finish 5-11. A big part of why was their repeatedly poor drafting. This was the rock bottom moment though. Not only had prior trades robbed them of a 1st round pick, they ended up spending three of the five they had on defensive backs. Always a clear sign of desperation to fill needs. Only one man came out of that class as a starter in 6th rounder Mario Edwards, and he was average at best.
