Carolina Panthers – 2009

The draft that hastened the demise of John Fox as head coach of the Carolina Panthers. He’d enjoyed a run of good success up to that point, winning three division titles including one the year before in 2008 after going 12-4. It was felt one more good draft could put that team in position for another run at the Super Bowl. They didn’t have a 1st rounder but did have two 2nd and two 4th rounders. So there was enough ammunition for them to get some nice pieces.

Instead they completely botched it. Both their 2nd rounders ended up being very average players. Defensive end Everette Brown seven sacks total in his NFL career. Safety Sherrod Martin was little better before his body succumbed to multiple injury problems. The lone saving grace of that draft was their last pick, an undersized kid from South Carolina named Captain Munnerlyn. If not for his surprising emergence, that might be the worst draft in franchise history.
