Pittsburgh Steelers – 2008

Historically the Steelers aren’t a team known for bombing drafts and it’s difficult to categorize the 2008 class as a complete crash and burn. After all 1st round pick Rashard Mendenhall turned into a fairly solid running back for a short time. He was the starter on their Super Bowl team in 2010. Though he did cough up the critical fumble that lost them that game. So giveth and taketh away etc. Outside of him though their picks that year didn’t measure up to typical Pittsburgh standards.

GM Kevin Colbert was and remained notable for his uncanny eye for wide receiving talent. This year marked one of his rare and biggest misfires. That being 2nd round pick Limas Sweed out of Texas. The kid had talent but just couldn’t handle the heavy competition. He ended up making just seven catches in his career. Sixth round safety Ryan Mundy did contribute somewhat but not much. Fun fact? Dennis Dixon, their 5th round QB pick, played just four seasons in the NFL. Three of those seasons wound up in the Super Bowl.
