Los Angeles Chargers – 2008

From 2001 to 2007, the San Diego Chargers had an excellent string of drafts and it showed up in their success on the field. They made the playoffs three times over that stretch and reached the AFC championship the final year. It was evident to almost anybody this team was one more influx of young talent away from going after that Lombardi trophy. Then, as is often the case on this list, they completely blew the landing. Instead of becoming the rocket they’d use to get over the top, the 2008 draft became the anchor that slow sank them back into mediocrity.

Their 1st round pick Antoine Cason was a serviceable corner for a few seasons but far from what people would call upper tier. Fullback Jacob Hester was another reminder that the position no longer had its traditional place in the modern NFL. As for the other picks? Not much of anything. It was a small group to start and made matters worse when they contributed very little to the overall cause.
