The Jacksonville Jaguars found a steal on the UDFA market in Utah’s Hunter Dimick. He’s capable of making their roster and making an impact…

When you see a player like Utah’s Hunter Dimick go undrafted, you wonder what in the world the NFL knows that we don’t know.

All-American honors as a senior along with All-Pac 12 honors, the Utah defensive captain finished his final collegiate season with 21.5 tackles for loss, 14.5 sacks, and 54 total tackles as he flat out wrecked opposing teams.

Inexplicably, Dimick wasn’t invited to the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine, so he put on a show for scouts at the Utah pro day instead. In addition to measuring out at 6-foot-3, 268 pounds (pretty good size for a base end in a 4-3 defense), Dimick threw up a whopping 38 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press and ran a very good 4.75 in the 40-yard dash.

His 1.65 second 10-yard split was also impressive, and it translates on tape where Dimick showed he can be quick off the ball and around the edge, getting to the quarterback with regularity.

According to Pro Football Focus, Dimick led the nation with 83 quarterback pressures this past season.

Eighty-three.

He’s not a smooth athlete like some of the other edge rushers we scout. He looks stiff at times and his ability to play laterally isn’t what you’d like to see from a high draft pick, which is probably factored in to why he wasn’t selected at all.

Still, Dimick’s ability to produce at a high level consistently shouldn’t have been completely ignored by the NFL. He understands leverage, and has a decent little repertoire of pass rush moves that he can utilize to get after opposing quarterbacks.

This is just a flat out good football player who doesn’t hardly ever come off the field, and that type of relentless approach could earn him a spot on the Jaguars’ final roster, where I think he could compete for some snaps as early as 2017.

If Dimick doesn’t stick in Jacksonville, expect him to resurface quickly elsewhere and carve out a niche in the NFL.
