NFL: Biggest questions facing the NFC West in 2017
Los Angeles Rams: Are there enough weapons around quarterback Jared Goff?
The rookie season for the 2016 1st overall pick was a rough one.
Goff went 0-7 in his seven starts this past season and completed 54.6% of his passes with five touchdowns and seven interceptions. Goff also passed for 200 yards or less in five of his seven starts. That was a result of a combination of objectives. One main reason was the fact that the Rams had little resourceful weapons around the young quarterback in 2016.
With the departure of the team’s leading receiver last season, Kenny Britt, to free agency, the Rams made it a priority to stock the shelves with weapons to help the progression of Goff. The team drafted three bodies for the passing game (WRs Cooper Kupp and Josh Reynolds, TE Gerald Everett) and signed another in free agency (WR Robert Woods).
One thing is for certain, the Rams made an effort to support their franchise quarterback, but even with the new names on the roster, many question whether the team did enough.
At this point, there is no proven #1 receiver and a lack of a run game does not make things any easier. Golf’s progression is key in year two, and the Rams hope that the added skill in the passing game will prove to be enough for Goff to grow as a passer.
