Derrius Guice is one of college football’s most explosive running backs, and many have no idea who he is because of Leonard Fournette…

All the fanfare among LSU running backs the past three years belonged to Leonard Fournette, who was recently a top five pick in the 2017 NFL Draft to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Fournette earned that fanfare with his on-field abilities, but it was his teammate — sophomore (now junior) Derrius Guice — who put up the big numbers last season.

Guice is going to be a big time NFL prospect this coming year as a junior, and in what will likely be his final year at LSU, he’s expected to compete for a Heisman Trophy.

More from NFL Mocks

As a sophomore, he carried the ball 183 times for 1,387 yards and 15 touchdowns. He nearly averaged eight yards per carry out of the backfield, and will now have the opportunity to establish himself both as a runner and receiver as LSU’s unquestioned number one option at running back.

When I watch Guice play, I am reminded a bit of former Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott, who has already established himself as one of the best running backs in the NFL after just one season.

Like Elliott, Guice runs with balance, power, and he also has phenomenal deep speed. He’s a home run threat every time he touches the football, and has the ability to wear a defense down between the tackles as well as beat you outside.

Arm tackles just don’t cut it when trying to bring Guice down, which is another reason he’s one of my favorite players in this year’s up-coming class. He does a great job of keeping his feet moving through contact and somehow accelerating to top speed instantly after taking a hit.

The first-team All-SEC performer is going to be a lot of fun to watch this season.
