New Orleans Saints: What is Mark Ingram’s role?
If there was ever a clear sign made by a team this season, it may have been the signing of Adrian Peterson in free agency. The longtime veteran enters the Saints offense with clear intentions on being entrenched as “the man” on offense. Something that fellow Saints running back Mark Ingram assumed he already wore.
Ingram rushed for a career-high in yards this past season with 1,043 and 10 total touchdowns. Statistically, it was his best season. So why bring in Peterson? Better yet, how much does the addition of Peterson affect Ingram.
It didn’t help that the Saints also drafted Alvin Kamara in the third round and his skill set entails that he will give the offense a spark plug. Ingram may see a reduction in playing time this season which may also lead to a possible dismissal at some point later down the line. At this stage of Peterson’s career, it may be possible to see a step back from Peterson as well. That will be music to Ingram’s ears but that is also not definite.
