The 5 Worst Cases Ever Of The Madden Curse Striking
By Erik Lambert
#2: Shaun Alexander
If ever there was a man who started that “falling off a cliff” fear for running backs in the NFL, it would be Shaun Alexander. This guy was the main man in 2005. At the head of a top ranked Seattle Seahawks offense, he rushed for 1,880 yards and a then-record 27 touchdowns. It was almost automatic that he’d get lots of yards and score points every week. The Seahawks reached the Super Bowl and Alexander was voted league MVP.
Sure enough the heavy workload and being on the Madden cover combined to catch up to him the next year. Alexander played in just 10 games thanks to injuries and finished with less than 1,000 yards for the first time in six seasons. He also scored just seven touchdowns, 20 fewer than the previous year. Seattle also lost their playoff magic, falling in the divisional round of the playoffs. After two more seasons Alexander was out of football.
