The Pittsburgh Steelers usually draft in their area of need and stay away from trades and big splashes. The 2017 draft wasn’t much different than usual.

The Pittsburgh Steelers focused on areas of need and picked up multiple contributors on the offensive and defensive side of the ball in the 2017 NFL Draft. They didn’t seem to reach for positions of need but still overall had an extremely balanced class.

The Steelers continued their trend of rounding out their young defense with high upside players. They drafted two edge rushers and two cornerbacks, two positions that desperately needed an injection of new life.

Pittsburgh’s primary area of weakness was their pass defense, and with every defensive selection they helped bolster that weakness. In fact don’t be surprised when every defensive selection makes the roster.

As for the offense, the Steelers found both immediate contributors and skill players to develop. There seemed to be a bigger need for defensive talent, but Pittsburgh decided to continue to build depth behind their stars to ensure continued success for years to come.
