Jamaal Charles stays in AFC West; signing with Denver Broncos
Jamaal Charles moves onto Denver, where he’ll play his former team twice
Kansas City Chiefs all-time rusher Jamaal Charles will sign a one-year free agent contract with the Denver Broncos, as reported by Adam Schefter.
The 30-year-old running back signed a deal worth $3.75 million over the course of the 2017 season, much of which is expected to be performance or health incentives.
Charles was released by Kansas City after playing just eight games over the past two seasons. A second tear to his left ACL put Charles out for the 2015 season and sidelined him in 2016 following complications from the surgery.
Denver now carries three running backs with NFL starting experience: Charles, C.J. Anderson, and second-year back Devonte Booker. Last week the team drafted De’Angelo Henderson in the sixth round out of Coastal Carolina.
Bernard Pierce and Juwan Thompson also remain on the Broncos roster, but are not expected to make the 53-man roster.
A third round pick by Kansas City, the former Longhorn running back holds Chiefs records for most career rushing yards and third in rushing touchdowns.

Charles will have the opportunity to play against the Chiefs in week 8 with a trip back to Arrowhead Stadium, and week 17 for a potential division-clinching game in Denver.
Denver has won five of the past seven AFC West division titles, with Charles former Chiefs team taking the other two.
