The NFL draft has finally come and gone. Now the real question can be asked. What fates await quarterbacks Jay Cutler and Colin Kaepernick?

Both were sort of put on the backburner in free agency for a variety of reasons. Namely their reputations for being media lightning rods. Yet the fact remains both still have something to offer in terms of talent. It was a matter of finding teams willing to consider them. The only way that was going to happen was after the draft when it became clear who’d failed to address their questionable QB depth charts properly.

Well that has come to pass, so it’s time to ask the question again. Which teams are the best fit for these two veterans?

Jay Cutler:  Arizona Cardinals

It’s unclear if they would’ve taken a quarterback at #13 overall. In the end the Cardinals never got a chance to find out. Kansas City and Houston jumped ahead of them at the #10 and #12 picks to swipe Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson. The fact that Arizona failed to add one after that happened is rather telling. Nonetheless it doesn’t change the fact they need depth. Cutler is slightly younger than Palmer with the kind of big arm that Bruce Arians loves. They can probably get him for cheap.

Colin Kaepernick:  New York Jets

Another team that was expected to dabble in the quarterback market but didn’t. The Jets seem content to ride it out with Bryce Petty, Josh McCown and Christian Hackenberg. Dangerous living to say the least. Sure the idea of Colin Kaepernick being in the New York market is terrifying, but the fact is he’s stayed out of trouble and still has talent worth exploring. The Jets have nobody on the roster with proven starting experience. Love or hate him, Kaepernick does.

There is a lingering possibility that one or both men could choose to retire at some point if they don’t get enough interest. Odds are that’s not happening though. At some point teams will come calling, likely hoping to wait until the hoopla dies down. If neither is signed, then the theories of them being blackballed may be true.
