. Quarterback. Miami. Brad Kaaya. 6. player. 50

It’s not a pick with upside to be a starter in their rookie season, but the Detroit Lions’ selection of Brad Kaaya in the sixth round is one of my biggest steals of the draft.

I didn’t have Kaaya ranked as a first round player by any means, but what I’ve seen from him the last three years at Miami and projecting him going forward is a lot better than a sixth round guy.

I could have seen Kaaya going in the third or fourth round based on teams’ desperate need for quarterbacks and Kaaya’s pro style approach. Perhaps the problem with Kaaya is the fact that he wasn’t overly reckless with the ball.

He has a somewhat average makeup physically and athletically, and doesn’t have a rocket for an arm, but this is a guy who is going to come in and learn the playbook and be like an extra coordinator in the film room as time goes on.

His ability to exploit weaknesses in teams he faced was apparent, but he doesn’t quite have the physical abilities to get to the next level as a player. I still think this is a great pick for Detroit and a player who could be a reliable backup and eventual starter in this league.
