2017 NFL Draft: Green Bay Packers take Kevin King with top pick of day two
The Green Bay Packers held the top pick on day two of the 2017 NFL Draft, and selected Washington Huskies cornerback Kevin King…
The Green Bay Packers didn’t make Kevin King, the last remaining player in the 2017 NFL Draft green room, wait very long. They made him the 33rd overall pick in the draft, and the first overall pick of day two of the draft.
From our scouting report of King:
"King has a ton of upside thanks to his physical ability and already polished game but there are still holes that make one pause. The long speed remains a question as does his overall lack of productivity. Some team will get him later on Day 2 and likely make him their #2 boundary corner who will quietly frustrated the #2 wide receiver of every opponent."
The Packers had one of the worst ranked pass defense last year, and King has excellent size and athleticism to make life tough on opposing receivers. King joins a secondary now that just lost Micah Hyde to the Buffalo Bills, and desperately needed some help outside at cornerback.
The Packers’ starters after last season were Damarious Randall — a first round pick in 2015 — and Davon House. It made all the sense in the world for Green Bay to look at the defensive side of the ball with this pick.
Anytime you have an opportunity to get a 6-3 cornerback that can be aggressive on the perimeter with King’s athletic measurables, it’s worth the investment. This is a nice pick by the Packers to start off day two of the draft.
