2017 NFL Draft: With rumors swirling that the Browns will take Mitch Trubisky over Myles Garrett, there’s perhaps some clarity as to their pick…

With only hours left until the start of the 2017 NFL Draft, many seem uncertain as to what the Cleveland Browns will do with the number one overall pick. Specifically, many have been hearing that Myles Garrett would not be the selection as previously assumed, and that Mitch Trubisky would be Cleveland’s selection.

Despite the threats from San Francisco and perhaps Chicago, the Browns shouldn’t have to worry about Trubisky getting to a pick where they could realistically think about moving up. I think ultimately, Sashi Brown and the leadership in Cleveland know the right selection is going to be Garrett.

Mary Kay Cabot, a Browns beat reporter, says Garrett is still favored to be the top pick despite some of the Trubisky rumors…

"Speculation over the last 24 hours, including some by Adam Schefter, has pointed to Mitch Trubisky being the top pick, but the Browns have continued to try to trade up into the top eight, presumably to draft Trubisky, and have given indications that they’re still set to take Garrett first overall.– Mary Kay Cabot"

The decision to pass on Garrett would probably be the most foolish decision the Browns could possibly make. He is head and shoulders above every other prospect in this draft in terms of athleticism, size, and on-field production, especially when compared to Trubisky.

The ideal scenario for Cleveland is obviously to wind up getting both Garrett and Trubisky, and I think they are going to find a way to make that happen. The Titans are reportedly very willing trade partners at no. five overall, and should be considered at least somewhat likely to move back to 12 with Cleveland and take advantage of the depth of this year’s draft while still having two first round picks.

If Myles Garrett isn’t the selection, here’s a mock draft looking at the potential fallout…
