42. For weeks, I’ve been talking about the 49ers getting a quarterback. While I’ve gone through and made cases for both Kizer and Watson, Trubisky should be the selection. I’ve never bought into the rumors of Solomon Thomas or Leonard Fournette. While those players are terrific, the 49ers don’t have much talent at quarterback.
Brian Hoyer is your perfect “bridge” quarterback and sets you up for success in the future. One of the goals for John Lynch is finding the face of his franchise in this draft. Without question, Mitch Trubisky can be that guy. Athletically, he matches up almost exactly with Blaine Gabbert. Here are their Combine numbers matched up.

Trubisky: 4.67 (40 time), 116 inch broad, 6.87 (3 cone) & 4.25 (20yd)
Gabbert: 4.62 (40 time), 120 inch broad, 6.84 (3 cone) & 4.25 (20 yd)

That’s scary from that perspective but I think Trubisky is still the better quarterback. It’ll be intriguing to see how he manages under center. At North Carolina, he spent a vast majority of snaps from the shotgun but with Kyle Shanahan, he could be alright.

Mitch Trubisky can extend plays out of the pocket and displays great accuracy. With 68% completion percentage, you can’t question that. While he is accurate, he doesn’t have elite arm-strength but he does a good job reading defenses. There will be questions on if he can run a pro-style offense but there’s no questioning his upside.
. Quarterback. North Carolina. Mitch Trubisky. 2. player
