Alabama. Reuben Foster. 19. player. 48. There might not be a rougher pre-draft process for anyone other than Reuben Foster. Starting at the Combine, he got sent home from the medical checks for the process taking too long. A few weeks later, Foster was invited back to Indy for a medical re-check. During that re-check, it was found that his torn rotator cuff is not healed and he could need another surgery. On top of all that, his drug test came back positive because his urine was diluted.

Whatever the case may be, he’s had an incredibly long and difficult process. As for his tape, there’s nothing really difficult about it. If he’s healthy, he can be a stud. With his athletic ability, he can play any linebacker spot possible but he’d be an ideal fit for an inside linebacker role in a 3-4 scheme.

Outside of winning the SEC Championship MVP, he also won the Butkus Award as the nation’s top linebacker. He finished this past season with 115 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and five sacks. Playing with some incredible defensive players at Alabama, Foster definitely stood out. He’s got great range from going sideline to sideline, he has the speed to get downhill quickly and with 10 pass deflections, he can be relied on in pass coverage. I’d like to see him improve the way he fights off a block and at times, he’s too hesitant getting where he needs to be.

Without question, if he gets everything together, he can be a terrific player. The Buccaneers have stated they’ll be taking the best player available at 19th overall and while some would say that the person should be Dalvin Cook, nobody can argue with this pick.
. Linebacker
