13. player. 32. Preparing for what’s to come after Carson Palmer is something the Arizona Cardinals will consider in this draft. There’s no way they can hesitate on this pick. There’s no guarantees when it comes to quarterbacks. There’s a chance that both Nathan Peterman and Davis Webb are gone by the time the Cardinals are on the clock again on day two. With that being said, they’ll take the young gunslinger from Texas Tech.
Patrick Mahomes II has turned a lot of heads throughout the draft process. There are lot of things wrong within his mechanics, there’s a lot to like about his arm strength. Before I get into him throwing a football from his knees for 70 yards, I’ll explain his mechanics. Footwork is one of the biggest key areas when it comes to a quarterback and to be honest, his footwork is often times, sloppy. He throws off his back foot, doesn’t follow through or is completely off balance. Clearly it woes you when he can fit a ball in a tight window with his arm strength but the footwork is still an issue.

Despite the footwork, Mahomes has a solid throwing motion and really understands football. He understands defensive concepts and he plays to win. You have to love that type of attitude. Whether he’s running for a first down or displaying his pocket mobility, he’ll take whatever hit is needed, as long as his team wins. Putting Mahomes in Arizona is an ideal situation. He can sit for however long and when the time is right, Bruce Arians will have Mahomes thriving in his downfield attack offense.
. Quarterback. Texas Tech. Patrick Mahomes II
