With the 2017 NFL Draft soon approaching, here’s a look at one of the better run defenders among interior defensive linemen, Michigan’s Ryan Glasgow…
The University of Michigan has a very long, impressive history of producing high-quality NFL talent. From “Crazy Legs” Elroy Hirsch to Dan Dierdorf, Ron Kramer to Charles Woodson. The profound institution has churned out standout alumni.
The school is currently in the process of producing even more great talent. Defensive end Taco Charlton, safety/linebacker Jabrill Peppers, and wide receiver Amara Darboh are just a few names that are on the radars of NFL scouts for the 2017 NFL Draft. Another name that has floated through discussions is defensive tackle Ryan Glasgow. A run-stuffing defender with a knack for being a pest to opposing offensive lines. Take a look at a breakdown of his game.
Measurables
Height: 6’3
Weight: 302 lbs
Strengths: A developed defensive tackle who walked onto the team in 2013…..Earned second-team All-Big Ten honors in 2016 with 39 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, three sacks (all career-highs)…..A powerful tackle with tremendous punch…..Solid arm length (33 3/8″) that allows him to apply that tremendous punch…..Solid overall balance; difficult to move…..Reliable instincts and overall football awareness/IQ…..A fighter from the snap to the whistle; player built on effort…….Solid short area quickness.

Weaknesses: Will never be mistaken as ‘athletic’…..Change of direction is nonexistent when chasing ball-carriers…..Does not offer a ton in the pass rushing department….Does not apply active hands when it comes to battling offensive linemen….Will likely only be a two-down linemen at the NFL level.
Bottom line: Glasgow may not have the stardom as other fellow Wolverines who are in the 2017 NFL Draft. Even though that is the case, Glasgow is a lineman who brings his hard hat to every game and every down of football. Interior offensive lineman will not have a lot of fun when it comes to blocking Glasgow.
On the other hand, Glasgow is what he is at the moment. His ceiling does not carry much outside of a solid run defender in a rotation on a team. His toughness will rub off on most around him and his no nonsense type play will boost fellow defensive linemen around him.
His draft stock carries a draft placement as high as the third round and he will likely be taken no further than the fifth round. If teams are in search of a nose tackle who has toughness and the ability to give interior opposing linemen a rough time, Glasgow would be of great value.
