Forrest Lamp, OL, Western Kentucky scouting report – 2017 NFL Draft

The reason why Lamp is being seriously considered as one of the first offensive linemen to be selected overall in the 2017 NFL Draft is versatility.
Or, at least, the potential to be versatile.
Some NFL scouts look at Lamp and see a guard, some see a center, and some think he’s going to stay at offensive tackle. Wherever he ends up, I think he’s going to excel.
Lamp has elite athleticism for a man of his size. He checked in at the Scouting Combine at 6-foot-4, 309 pounds with massive 10 5/8-inch hands. Those hands pack a punch on the field, but what really blew me away about Lamp was the fluidity with which he moves for a big man.
Gliding through drills at the Scouting Combine, Lamp ran a 5.00 second 40-yard dash, and ranked among the best offensive linemen in his class with 34 bench press reps, a 111-inch broad jump, and a 7.55 second three-cone time.
Those athletic traits translated to the field as Lamp does a great job of keeping a wide base, moving his feet, and using his core strength to anchor against bull rushers. He has the foot quickness and speed to not only get out in space and be an asset in that way, but he can also mirror rushers trying to come around the edge.
He’s a winner who consistently has his hands in good position and just rarely gives up pressures on the quarterback. Pro Football Focus graded him as a top five blocker in the country for three seasons straight. That type of consistency is simply remarkable.
The fruits of Lamp’s hard work off the field are evident when he steps out onto it. He looks like he was carved from stone even as an offensive lineman, and carries 309 pounds extremely well.
