13. The Chargers aren’t going to surprise anyone with this pick, but they are going to get better with it.

Despite a 9-23 combined record over the last two seasons, the Chargers have a solid roster when healthy. As such, there are no glaring weaknesses on this team. However, an upgrade at the safety position could be used.

Dwight Lowery didn’t play bad last season, but the upside of Jamal Adams is just too good to pass up. He is simply a complete safety.

Adams possesses a physical nastiness to go along with an athletic skill set that will allow him to make plays on the ball in coverage. He can hang with tight ends or wide receivers coming out of the slot position and he can also come up and make plays at the line of scrimmage, blowing up running backs and even putting pressure on the quarterback. Ohio State’s Malik Hooker will also be considered in this spot, but Adams’ ability as a tackler is what makes him the pick.

On top of that, throw in the fact that Gus Bradley has come over to coach the defense. He’s the same guy that helped build Seattle’s defense, which is one of the best the league has seen in quite some time. With a healthy Jason Verrett and Casey Hayward, who the led the NFL in interceptions last season, this secondary could be quite good with the addition of Adams. I’m not saying it’ll be the Legion of Boom… but I am saying it’s possible.

The Chargers don’t take much time in making this pick. They get the player they want.
. S. LSU. Jamal Adams. 7. player
