Reuben Foster. 2. player. 42. The 49ers need more than a handful of defensive upgrades, and they kick off the list by selecting the best linebacker in the NFL Draft. Reuben Foster is excellent against the run, has great coverage skills with a relentless motor and is the perfect complement to current Niners linebacker NaVorro Bowman. <p>Foster’s NFL Scouting Combine incident might be a little concerning, but any character concerns end there. And the 49ers shouldn’t worry, considering his reputation as a great teammate and contributor while at Alabama.</p> <p>Adding Foster, at least in a couple of years, might be able to take some of the pressure off Bowman to be the mainstay of San Francisco’s front seven. In the meantime, Foster likely be tasked with the WILL linebacker position in San Francisco’s 4-3 base defense.</p> <p>Just like that, the 49ers defense experiences a major upgrade. Sure, there are other defensive positions to be addressed via the draft. But a deep class at cornerback and within the pass rush affords the Niners the opportunity to wait until subsequent rounds to make these choices.<br /> </p>. ILB. Alabama
