The draft is so close now and the Chicago Bears know their moment of truth is almost at hand. This could be the three-day span that decides their future.

After a somewhat modest haul of decent-if-unremarkable free agents, the pressure is on for them to hit it big with their picks. They certainly have the favorable position to make it happen with high position in every round. GM Ryan Pace is known for his preparation so it stands to reason he has a game plan in mind. Knowing how he’s operated over the past two years, there might be a certain way to figure out how the Bears could attack this draft. It starts with getting a little creative.

player. 57. There are some things to keep in mind here. The Bears tend to target players with enormous upside. Big-time athletes with clean character backgrounds. They may not fill the most immediate need but they are likely the best overall player available. That is what makes the drafting of O.J. Howard easy to sell. The Alabama tight end is a physical specimen who is a dangerous receiver with speed but also can manhandle as a blocker. A complete player who is ready to go.
Before questioning the pick just remember who the Bears have at tight end currently. Zach Miller, a 33-year old with an injury history longer than War & Peace. Dion Sims, a recent free agent signing who’s never had more than 300 yards receiving. Beyond them a host of unproven youngsters with limited upside. Howard would instantly become their most talented offensive weapon in the passing game. No doubt about it.
. TE. Alabama. O.J.
