The third player drafted from the state of Florida and the second Hurricane is a quarterback! The scare of the offseason for the Steelers was when Big Ben announced he was starting to think about retirement.

Instead of panicking and drafting a quarterback in the first round, the Steelers should continue to add depth at the position and wait until a stronger QB class to add even more competition to the right to Roethlisberger’s throne.

Landry Jones needs some competition, Bruce Gradkowski hasn’t played in three years and Zach Mettenberger seems like nothing more than a stopgap behind Jones.

Quietly, Brad Kaaya had a great pre draft process. His combine and pro day both showed great accuracy and a high football IQ. Kaaya has slipped due to concerns on his footwork and poise but his production at Miami and ability to fit the ball into tight windows makes him a great pick for the Steelers here as a potential starter down the road.

If nothing else, he isn’t Landry Jones…
