8. Carolina Panthers

87. Put it this way. When the Carolina Panthers have a ground game, Cam Newton and that defense can crush opponents. When they don’t, the Carolina Panthers revert to being an inconsistent and often disappointing team. It seems like the best of what this franchise can be literally revolves around running the ball well. In 2015, they did and went 15-1. In 2016 they didn’t and failed to even make the playoffs.
That’s why they decide to make Christian McCaffrey their pick at #8. It’s unconventional in some ways but not surprising. If anything, it makes perfect sense. McCaffrey is a tough, well-proportioned runner who can tote the traditional 20-25 carries per game and wear defenses out. Where he could be something so much more is his versatility as a pass catcher. His hands and speed are among the best in this class. That dimension is what the Panthers have been missing.
. RB.
