7. Los Angeles Chargers

It’s becoming clearer than ever that if a team is going to get past New England in the AFC, it will take a top defense to do it. Denver proved it in 2015 and Baltimore proved it in 2012. It’s a lesson the Los Angeles Chargers still haven’t learned well enough. Thankfully they have a chance to really put those lessons to good use. Their front seven is developing into one of the best in the league. Now they just need a difference-maker on the back end.
Enter Malik Hooker. This young Ohio State safety was a marvel in 2016. Despite playing hurt most of the year, he still managed to snag seven interceptions and score three touchdowns. He’s big, athletic, fast and an absolute master at getting the football while it’s in the air. The Ed Reed comparisons are not an accident. This young man is special. Sure he’s a bit inexperienced but that won’t matter much provided the Chargers don’t put a leash on him.
. S. Ohio State. Malik Hooker . 7. player. 13
