The Dallas Cowboys defense was positively gutted by free agency as they lost key players at every position from defensive line to linebackers, cornerback and safety. It’s hard to say where they should begin their frantic retooling efforts. Knowing their systems and Rod Marinelli though, it should always start up front. Being able to apply a pass rush is something that makes that entire 4-3 scheme work. Thus far they haven’t been able to assemble a consistent group.

They could get a stroke of good fortune with Derek Barnett falling to them at #28. While not quite the athlete Garrett is, he’s a consistent producer. The 33 sacks he piled up at Tennessee proves that much. Barnett just has that instinct, discipline and quickness to get after the quarterback. His body type should fit well in the Dallas system as he’ll be able to play with his hand in the dirt and get up the field.
. DE. Tennessee. Derek Barnett . 28. player. 123
