Patrick Mahomes QB Texas Tech: Round 1

With the Chiefs 1st round selection this draft I do not believe that a QB should be the top need. However, if Patrick Mahomes is still on the board when the Chiefs pick rolls around there should be no hesitation in selecting the gunslinger from Texas Tech.

Mahomes possess the biggest upside out of any of the QB’s in the draft class due to his overwhelming arm talent, and his uncanny on the field instincts. Who better to hone those skills than the QB guru himself, Andy Reid?

Sitting behind an experienced veteran in Alex Smith could be the most beneficial situation for Mahomes. The two downsides I see on Mahomes tape is technical things such as his messy footwork, and his hit and miss down field consistency.

With Andy Reid and Alex Smith helping groom Mahomes, he could lead this Chiefs team for many years at the end of the Alex Smith era.
