Deshaun Watson Incident Proves Alabama Fans Are Sorest Losers
By Erik Lambert
Alabama fans are the worst. No, that doesn’t mean they’re terrible people. It just means as football fandom goes, they sit at the bottom.
Why is that? Well to put it simply, they don’t understand how to deal with the concept of losing. Despite enjoying an era of unparalleled success under Nick Saban that includes four national championships (and counting), they still find a way to come off being petty. Acting as if they’re the undeserved victims in a crime. That was on display in Tuscaloosa when Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson was kicked out of a local sports bar.
No, seriously. The guy was forced to avoid a physical altercation with because he won a football game over their favorite team. Unreal.
Now in fairness there were people in the crowd who thought that was going over the line but the fact the establishment let it happen anyway is pretty bad. First of all, it’s a really bad look considering it’s a black man in a part of the country known for its tense racial history. Then there’s the fact that Watson beat Alabama fair and square in that game. There were no big controversies. He never bad-mouthed the Crimson Tide. All he did was survive the beatings and win.
History doesn’t lie
To top it off, have Bama fans forgotten they defeated him just the year prior for a national title? Honestly some people need to stop and appreciate what this program has accomplished. Also they need to understand the bigger picture. Alabama will be back in that game sooner or later. Let the guy have his moment. He more than earned it. Then again this shouldn’t be a surprise. Tide fans actually have an ugly history of petty retaliation after big losses.
Remember this guy? His name was Harvey Updike, a die-hard Alabama fan. After his beloved team collapsed in the Iron Bowl against Cam Newton and Auburn, he decided to strike back. Not classic trash talk or other harmless methods. Oh no. He decided to poison the iconic trees at Toomer’s Corner. An Auburn institution for decades. Again, all over a football game. Let us not forget that the Crimson Tide won the national championship again the next year.
Some people really need to chill out.
