5th Round

57. Alshon Jeffery leaving is a void the Bears need to fill. It’s still possible that Kevin White or Cameron Meredith could do that, but it’s far from certain. Adding more size to the receiving group is a great idea. Mack Hollins qualifies at 6’4″, but he also brings the added dimension of speed. He’s burned defenses deep a number of times at North Carolina. He’s still raw though, having not fully learned the position. Given time? His potential is significant.. WR. North Carolina. Mack Hollins . 147. player

5th Round (via CAR)

ILB. Tennessee. Jalen Reeves-Maybin . 152. player. 57. On the surface it may look like the Bears are set at inside linebacker but that’s not the case. Danny Trevathan has knee issues. Jerrell Freeman is in his 30s and Nick Kwiatkoski is far from proven. More depth never hurts at that position. Jalen Reeves-Maybin is a bit undersized but he plays with speed and anticipations. He can blitz, drop into coverage and has that knack for getting to the football before the play develops. Freeman will be the perfect mentor for him.

7th Round

57. The Bears met with Nate Gerry at the Senior Bowl. He exhibits many of the traits they covet at safety: size, instinct and an ability to make big plays. His limited athleticism will keep him at strong safety but he’s one of those overachiever types who just always seems to be around the football. The reason he falls to the 7th round aside from the aforementioned athletic issues is his tendency to miss tackles and draw penalties. Both will need cleaning up.. S. Nebraska. Nate Gerry . 221. player
