The Chicago Bears know the situation. They have to make sure this 2017 NFL draft goes well, or at least doesn’t get flubbed. Not after last season.

GM Ryan Pace may have the backing of the McCaskey family, but he’s not stupid. The clock is still ticking. His first two seasons in charge were marked by just nine total wins. Of course he inherited an old and broken down roster. Still, in this modern league results are expected by the third year. Results he vowed to produce. After an underwhelming free agency period, it feels like everything has come down to this draft. If the Bears are going to win, he has to nail it.

8. player. 57. History shows the Bears offense is just better when they have a tight end in the lineup who can catch the ball. It was true of Martellus Bennett. It was true of Greg Olsen and of course it was true with Mike Ditka. Success seems to follow this team when they invest heavily in a top player at that position. So why not take advantage of what might be the strongest tight end class seen in a draft for at least a decade?
After trading down with Carolina to acquire extra picks, they pounce on Alabama stud O.J. Howard. This guy is no joke. He built a reputation for excellent blocking during most games for the run-heavy Crimson Tide. Then in big contests he would be cut loose in the passing game and instantly dominate with his mix of size, speed, route running and soft hands. The guy is the total package who will never leave the field at the NFL level. If the Bears want a “safe” pick, this is it.
. TE. Alabama. O.J. Howard
