Before you say anything, hear me out on Colin Kaepernick potentially going to Seattle

Colin Kaepernick remains the hottest name on the NFL free agent market, despite starting only 11 games and becoming one of the game’s most polarizing players. With so few suitors in the quarterback market, Kaepernick stands to miss the 2017 season just four years after leading San Francisco to the playoffs.

At this stage of the NFL offseason Kaepernick stands to resume his role as a backup quarterback, but the question of where still remains.

One team that could use a veteran backup quarterback would be Kaepernick’s former foe, the Seattle Seahawks.

A franchise with an established, Super Bowl winning quarterback, Seattle presents a quality team with no chance of a quarterback controversy.

  • Additionally, Seattle has just two quarterbacks on its roster heading into the NFL Draft: Wilson and second-year UDFA Trevone Boykin. For a team looking to make a Super Bowl push it should be imperative for the Seahawks to have a backup with more than 18 career pass attempts.

Boykin’s arrest for marijuana and public intoxication over the weekend puts Seattle in an even more dire position to add depth at quarterback.

Pete Carroll knows how to handle controversy, and this organization is as sound as any when it comes to structure and leadership.

In fact, many of the Seahawks leaders have publically supported Kaepernick through his trials and tribulations. Richard Sherman and Michael Bennett were the most outspoken in support of Kaepernick, with Bennett even saying “Kap is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL…teams should be happy to have a leader like that.”

Seattle has some extra financial room to work out a deal with Kaepernick, which if structured properly could ultimately save the team money. Expect a low base salary with multiple incentives that are either easily achievable or laid out on the back end.

Kaepernick deserves an opportunity to play in the NFL, and has shown he can with the right team around him. Seattle is a great opportunity to reclaim his fame, and in a league with aging quarterbacks Kaepernick could regain the opportunity to start in the NFL sooner than later.
