57. The Bears badly need help at safety. It was their weakest position on defense last season. The arrival of Quintin Demps helps a little but at age 32 it’s a temporary patch. They still haven’t been able to find a true starter whom they know can be relied on to patrol the back end. Not since Mike Brown was such stability known. That was a decade ago. Proof that the franchise has really lost its touch for being able to identify good players at that position.
Marcus Maye might finally be that step in the right direction. Florida has become a proven factory for defensive backs in recent years. Maye gets overshadowed in this class since he’s not a world class athlete or overly big. He’s got some size but the strength of his game is instincts and versatility. He’s fast enough to play coverage on the back end but strong enough to drop into the box. The kid does his job on every snap. More than can be said for others on the roster.
. S. Florida. Marcus Maye . 67. player
