28. Protecting Derek Carr must be the all-consuming obsession of the Raiders every year. Anytime it looks like one of the five positions is starting to deteriorate, they must be ready to plug the gap. Donald Penn is starting to show his age at left tackle and right tackle was probably their weakest position in 2016. There is no harm at all in bringing aboard more depth and competition for both of those spots. Especially one with the raw ability of Roderick Johnson.
It’s so easy to forget when looking at Johnson that he’s still just 21-years old. He’s a kid. The rawness in his game is obvious, but there is no doubting the athletic ability. He moves so well for somebody 6’7″, 300 lbs. Throw in a pair of 36-inch arms and these are the makings of a true NFL left tackle. The question will be whether the Raiders show the necessary patience to get his mechanical flaws cleaned up. He is definitely worth the effort.
. OT. Florida State. Roderick Johnson . 3. player
