With six key defensive contributors now signed onto other teams, including four starters in the secondary, the Dallas Cowboys will have more than a few holes to fill. Lucky for them, this draft is deep at both safety and cornerback.

With recent news suggesting Brandon Carr has agreed to a deal with the Baltimore Ravens and potentially Morris Claiborne with the New York Jets, more holes will need to be filled for a depleted Cowboys’ defense.

Dallas has already seen two defensive lineman sign with new teams, Terrell McClain to the Redskins and Jack Crawford to the Falcons, and the exodus likely won’t end there.

With so many holes to fill, it leaves Cowboys’ fans wondering what plan exists to fill these voids before the 2017 season. With only three cornerbacks on the roster, including recently signed Nolan Carroll, and three safeties (only one of which played more than three games in 2016), additions are sorely needed.

This leads to the question, what can the Cowboys do? Everything lies in a current free agent market and a deep draft class.  Let’s take a look at some options from both.
