Chicago Bears Updated 2017 NFL Draft Needs: Post-Free Agency
By Erik Lambert
#1: Quarterback
Sorry. The addition of Mike Glennon is a logical idea and intriguing risk, but nothing about that signing signals the Bears quarterback position is better. Especially after the team cut Jay Cutler and let Brian Hoyer walk. It’s hard to feel any sort of excitement about Glennon or Connor Shaw. Both have losing records in their brief opportunities as starters. Right now their best arguments to that are they came with dumpster fire organizations in Tampa Bay and Cleveland.
True of course, but still nothing to get excited about. The odds of Glennon actually becoming an above-average starting quarterback are low. This team hasn’t drafted one above the fourth round since 2003. That is not the sort of investment focus that brings success in this modern NFL. If the Bears truly think they’re in touch with reality, then they have to add a young talent to the mix. Somebody that fans and experts alike can’t just shrug off.
