7. Los Angeles Chargers

7. player. 13. For the first time in a long time the Los Angeles Chargers had an actual pass rush in 2016, courtesy of their twin edge specialists in Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram. So why wasn’t the defense better than it probably should’ve been. A general lack of playmakers in the secondary could be the culprit. Outside of Casey Heyward, who was excellent, they really didn’t get enough production from the other corners or the safeties. No doubt the loss of Eric Weddle loomed large.
Drafting Malik Hooker has a chance to completely flip the script. He’s earned comparisons to former great Ed Reed, and there’s a reason. Teams fear throwing the ball in his area of the field. Odds are he’ll get his hands on it eventually. In just his first year as a starter, the rangy safety collected seven interceptions and returned three for touchdowns. An elite caliber ball hawk who could transform that pass rush into something more than just sack production.
. S. Ohio State. Malik Hooker
