The Dallas Cowboys defense was middle-of-the-road last season. They were an average group that got by with good scheming and high effort. The last thing they could afford was to lose what they had. Yet that’s the harsh reality they face as a host of key defensive linemen and cornerbacks departed in free agency. Suddenly a unit light on playmakers is even thinner than before. Suffice to say defense will be the primary focus of 2017.

How fortunate they are though that Derek Barnett slips to them at this spot. Teams will nitpick his average size and good-not-great athleticism. That belies just how natural a pass rusher he is. The Tennessee defensive end racked up 33 sacks in three years for the Volunteers. He’s strong, quick off the snap and uses violent hands to beat blockers inside or outside. Given how vital pass rush is from the defensive line for this Dallas team, he could be a dream come true.
. DE. Tennessee. Derek Barnett . 28. player. 123
