The Chicago Bears at least managed to avoid a city-wide riot with their recent run of free agency moves, at the same time changing up their draft plans.

There can be no doubt that Mike Glennon is the quarterback for 2017, which means finding him more weaponry to work with becomes a priority. What with the exit of Alshon Jeffery making life harder. Of course the defense will also be getting plenty of attention. It’s a young unit that is building into something special if the talent flow remains consistent. How could Ryan Pace approach what is the most critical draft of his young career as GM?

1st Round (via CLE)

EDGE. Michigan. Taco Charlton . 12. player. 57. The Bears need more draft picks. If they’re going to build primarily through the draft, then it’s going to take more than seven picks for them to infuse the roster with more talent. Luckily there are several teams with extra picks capable of moving up. Cleveland stands way above the rest. They have multiple 2nd round selections in both 2017 and 2018. How the Bears pull off the deal is by avoiding a future 1st rounder, helped by the inclusion of extra mid rounders for additional flexibility.
Having secured a nice package, they move back and continue beefing up their pass rush. This time with the big, long and sneaky athletic Taco Charlton. He really began to emerge last season at Michigan, showcasing his mix of power and quickness. He’s one of those rare types who can play defensive end in a 4-3 but also can shift to outside linebacker in a 3-4. He’ll make excellent insurance for the aging Willie Young and injury-prone Pernell McPhee.
