Mike Glennon is surprisingly going to be one of the biggest dominoes to fall that dictates the direction of 2017 NFL free agency.

It’s amazing to think this former 3rd round pick who hasn’t started a game since 2014 could end up making between $14-15 million within the next calendar year. That is the sobering reality of this league. Teams either have a quarterback or they don’t. So they’re forced to exhausted precious resources until they find one. Even those who seem like they’re a waste of time like Glennon.

A man who went 5-13 as a starter in two years and looked rather average through most of his performances. The apparent gamble then is he’s 27-years old and didn’t have favorable circumstances around him when he played, which is true. Teams who aren’t willing to mortgage the future in a trade or a high draft choice must then be willing to spend too much cash to find out if that’s true.

Based on this information, these are the three teams to watch on his market.

More from NFL Mocks

Best equipped:  Chicago Bears

No other quarterback-needy team can offer Glennon what the Bears can, both in terms of money and situation. They have a wealth of cap space to deliver a deal he’s looking for but more than that he’d have a favorable situation in terms of surrounding personnel. Not only would he be able to feed a Pro Bowl running back in Jordan Howard, he’d also have a star-studded offensive line with guys like Kyle Long, Josh Sitton and Cody Whitehair on the interior. If they somehow manage to keep Alshon Jeffery, that’s the best spot one could ask for.

Most desperate:  New York Jets

Word is buzzing that the Jets have no plans to select a quarterback high in the draft. Not after unloading a 2nd rounder for Christian Hackenberg last year. Yet most agree that he is far from being ready to play. Thus New York is in a serious conundrum. They may need a veteran QB to take over. Glennon may not be ideal but he’s the best of a weak free agent class in terms of talent and upside. He would buy them time until they figured out a new plan, presuming Hackenberg doesn’t work out.

Dark horse:  San Francisco 49ers

Something to keep in mind here. The 49ers have the second-most amount of cap space in the league. So they can afford to do some serious spending. Then there is the other minor fact that they don’t have a single quarterback under contract. Not one. Odds are they won’t be able to trade for Kirk Cousins and probably don’t want to draft a quarterback at #2 overall. Glennon would give them some stability and a good starting off point as they begin to make over the roster. His price tag is really nothing in their eyes.
