18. Miami Dolphins (via TEN)

Tennessee. Derek Barnett . 18. player. 59. The Miami Dolphins know they’re flirting with disaster along the defensive line. They’ve already lost Olivier Vernon and now Cameron Wake is a year older at 35. They can’t continue to expect him to be their primary pass rusher for much longer. They have to find a young guy to fill out the depth chart or they risk the most vital part of their defense crumbling just when the team was starting to get its footing.
That’s why they move up the board to grab Derek Barnett. He may not look like a premier defensive end should, but then neither does Wake. All anybody can say is Barnett know how to get the quarterback on the ground. His 33 sacks in college prove that. He’s explosive off the snap, can bend the edge and is relentless in pursuit. Also he’s shown the strength to set the edge against the run and can move better than people think as an athlete.
. DE
