Penn State wide receiver Chris Godwin is turning heads in all the right ways at the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine, posting excellent measurables…

Chris Godwin wasn’t an ‘unknown’ going into the Scouting Combine, so to speak, but the former Penn State receiver is certainly turning heads. Godwin has looked excellent athletically, running the 40-yard dash in 4.42 seconds and throwing up 19 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.

Those are each excellent numbers, and at 5-11, 205 pounds, Godwin is showing he has the short area quickness and deep speed to be a versatile, dangerous threat at the next level.

What’s the benefit of turning heads at the Combine? Well, teams certainly have their draft boards prior to seeing players at the Combine. The performances these players put on while showing off their athleticism at the Combine isn’t anything that’s going to make or break their careers, but what they are doing is checking off box after box.

For Godwin, the boxes are being checked, and evaluators are going to be forced to go back and look at more of the film to see how the athletic numbers match up to the player we see on tape. My guess is, everyone’s going to be pleased with what they see…

When you go back and look at the numbers Godwin posted at Penn State, and the fact that he was a threat no matter the route he was running, his 59 catches for 982 yards and 11 touchdowns this past year are even more impressive.

He had 1,101 yards as a sophomore for Penn State, so he’s not a one-year-wonder either. This is the type of player that looks like he can come in, run an expanded route tree, and play inside or outside right away at the next level. He’ll be an asset for some team, and likely won’t last out of the second round after what we’ve seen from him athletically at the Combine.

This is the type of performance that can either solidify a player’s status or help elevate them get a notch above someone else on a team’s draft board. Godwin’s performance is certainly going to cause NFL teams to re-evaluate their wide receiver rankings.
