The Cleveland Browns reportedly like North Carolina quarterback Mitch Trubisky enough to consider him with the top overall selection…

The Cleveland Browns may fear the quarterback they covet in this year’s draft will not be available at the 12th overall selection (their second in the first round), so they are reportedly considering something unfathomable with the 1st overall pick:

Of course, this year is not atypical of other years — there’s reason for teams to lie about nearly everything, and perhaps this is one such case. However, this report came on the heels of another report that the Browns indeed feel uncomfortable waiting for the 12th overall pick to take the quarterback they want, so it would make sense to go and get ‘your guy’ with the top pick at your disposal.

Trubisky enjoyed an excellent junior campaign at North Carolina, and opted to leave school early for the NFL Draft. Clearly, that was the right choice. There are definitely going to be areas where he has to grow at the next level, but Trubisky has the arm and athletic ability to be a starting quarterback in the NFL, and the Browns need someone to be the savior of the franchise.

Could it be this young man?

According to the report linked above, Trubisky is one of just a handful of players the Browns would be interested in with that top selection:

"Trubisky is one of about four players on the Browns’ radar at No. 1, but he could have a slight edge given that Jackson said at the Senior Bowl a good quarterback would trump an elite non-QB. The three other top candidates are Garrett, Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson and Alabama pass-rusher Jonathan Allen."

The interesting piece of that quote is the fact that Hue Jackson believes a good QB would trump an elite non-QB. That type of thought process could get you into a lot of trouble, especially if a player like Myles Garrett can help turn around the culture of a franchise because he is an elite prospect where right now, Trubisky is not.

It’ll all be interesting, but the Browns need to start pulling the right triggers to right the ship.
