2017 NFL Draft Top 10 Quarterback Rankings: Pre-Senior Bowl
By Erik Lambert
#9: Nathan Peterman (Pitt)
Having spent most of the year in a run-first offense at Pitt, it was easy to miss some of the intriguing attributes about Nathan Peterman. The term “game manager” comes with such a stigma these days but it can be a really good thing in the right circumstances. Peterman showed why. He’s an athletic, tough kid who is fearless when it comes to running for extra yards. He stands in the pocket and examines the field until he finds the open guy. Not one to take a lot of chances. Likes to play the high percentage game.
At 6’2″ he has fine size and his arm, while not electric can deliver the ball with some zip. One of those guys who understands how to keep the chains moving. However, ask him to win the game himself and that’s a problem. Peterman has shown recurring problems with accuracy in tight games. Can tend to overshoot easier throws and isn’t prone to testing defenses deep. Strike as more of a caretaker. A helmsman rather than a captain.
