NFL Mock Draft 2.0: Week 16 Brings Massive Trading
Some hard-hitting injuries early this season tempered the San Diego Chargers expectations and contributed to their limited success in 2016. While there were some bright flashes on both sides of the ball, including a breakout season for running back Melvin Gordon and the production of defensive end Joey Bosa, the loss of Danny Woodhead, Keenan Allen, and Jason Verrett proved too much to overcome. The loss of Allen was especially challenging, as it left Rivers without his number one receiver and forced him to rely on more inexperienced targets. This leads us to the 2017 NFL draft.
With their first round pick, the Chargers find their next go-to receiver in Clemson’s Mike Williams. At 6’3”, 210 lbs, Williams has the size and ball-skills to make contested catches and fight for positioning. He has demonstrated the speed to be a deep threat and his hands have proven phenomenal. While Keenan Allen can still be a dynamic weapon and top receiver in the AFC, Williams will bring this offense to an entirely new level. They would quickly become one of the more effective wide receiver tandems in the league and San Diego may find themselves in contention once again.
